Catholic Air Force Veterans Undertake Volunteer Landscaping Project at St. Scholastica Retreat Center

In the late 1960's and early 1970's, the Catholic Air Force Group stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base, Jacksonville, did service projects at St. Joseph Orphanage and St. Augustine Church. While at St. Joseph's, they struck up a lifelong friendship with Sister Madeline Bariola, OSB. Sister Madeline attends the Catholic Air Force Veterans biennial reunions, and St. Scholastica Monastery is hosting their October, 2014 reunion. This week, six veterans volunteered to do landscaping at the retreat center entrance. They removed an 18 inch retaining wall, transplanted hydrangeas, and planted new plants in a large bed in front of Room 110. In these pictures, Bob Williams, Larry Falls, Mitch Joseph, Fred Gumm, Bill Crookham, and Rusty Estlik help Sister Madeline. Sandy Gumm, Fred's wife, came to help, too.
