Bishop Anthony Taylor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith have labored in the vineyard of the Lord here in the Diocese of Little Rock for over 137 years, and six generations of Arkansans throughout the state have been touched by their years of selfless, loving service. In recent years their community has faced a number of serious challenges, two of the most obvious of which are the cost of maintaining their obsolete 90 year old building and the challenges of meeting the needs of a smaller and increasingly elderly community.
Therefore I am very pleased to see that the Sisters are making plans to build a smaller, more sustainable monastery to better meet the present and future needs of their members. The title of their campaign is Forward In Faith and their goal is $5,000,000.
I heartily endorse this effort and I encourage you to respond with generosity, the same generosity with which these Sisters have spent themselves in our service throughout their lives.
We owe them a great deal of gratitude and this is one small way in which we can begin to repay that great debt. Please be generous!
Sincerely in Christ,
Anthony B. Taylor
Bishop of Little Rock
