Two locations for private retreats are available through St. Scholastica Monastery. During private retreats, guests are welcome to participate in the prayer life of the sisters, receive spiritual direction, and use the resources of our print and media libraries.
The Retreat Center offers the opportunity for guests to walk through 66 acres of partially wooded grounds, to walk the labyrinth, meditate on the seven sorrows of Mary or at the different statues, altars, and gazebos along the walking paths. An extensive library of religious books is available in the Chapter room; a periodical, audio, and video library is located on the second floor of the monastery. An indoor swimming pool, open during the warmer months, is open to guests. Individual spiritual direction is available; we have six spiritual directors on staff.
Guests are welcome to pray the Liturgy of the Hours with the sisters at morning, noon, and evening, to attend daily Mass, to spend time in Adoration preceding noon praise, and to join the sisters in the Rosary at mid-afternoon.
It is requested that reservations be made at least one week in advance by calling the Center at (479) 783-1135. Fees for room and board are $60 per day. Spiritual direction is available at $40 a session.
Hesychia House of Prayer
Hesychia House of Prayer is located in New Blaine, Arkansas, about ten miles east of Subiaco on Highway 22. Each guest has a fully-equipped hermitage for his/her use, including limited cooking and refrigeration facilities, a full bath, air conditioning and electric heating in addition to a wood-burning stove. Retreatants prepare their own breakfast and lunch in their hermitages and are invited to share the evening meal with the core community if they choose.
They may participate at Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours with the sisters, have a scripture-based retreat, or choose to be alone. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is from 6:30 a.m. to shortly before Mass at 8:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and from about 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. On Sundays. Sister Louise Sharum and Ethel Marie Sonnier are available for individual spiritual direction. A small library of inspirational tapes and books is available.
Hesychia, located in a rural area amid pastures of grazing cattle and surrounded by mountain ranges of exquisite beauty, has 200 acres of trails for guests to explore.
Suggested donations are $50 a night for the first week; $35 a night for longer stays; and $20 for a single day. Spiritual direction, if desired, is included in the daily cost. The sisters appreciate an additional donation for directed retreats. For reservations, call Hesychia House of Prayer at (479) 938-7375 , or e-mail hesychia 'at' centurytel 'dot' net.
